Vodafone World of Difference - Winners 2012

In the programme’s second year, we received 414 applications in total, and we singled out the 5 applicants who worked for a year at the charity of their choice.

 

The programme’s successful applicants, who shall dedicate their valuable skills and experience and work at the charity of their choice for a whole year, are the following:

 

Thanassis Vanezis worked as Biomechanist at the Walking Analysis Center of Hellenic Society for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Spastic Children (ELEPAP) in Athens. Thanassis Vanezis graduated from the Sports Science Department of the Liverpool John Moores University, with a specialty in Biomechanics.

 

 He also holds a Master in Biomechanics. During the year, he developed and implemented a biomechanical protocol for 3D measuring and analysis of upper limb function. The outcome of the procedure was to determine upper limb function using quantitative criteria in order to design a rehabilitation programme and to evaluate treatment based on specific quantitative data.

 

 

Konstantina Lygizou worked as System Development Manager for young people with hearing problems at the Scouts Association of Greece. Konstantina graduated from the Faculty of Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds adequacy in Sign language. She was also a Sign language Interpreter trainee at the Hellenic Federation of the Deaf.

 

During the programme she began the “Scouting in Sign Language”, where 39 adult staff were trained to use Greek sign language at weekly meetings. She also ran a series of briefings about the programme to schools and deaf/hard-of-hearing associations and families with children having hearing impairments.

 

 

Dimitris Papandreou worked as Operations Manager on the “Additional Child and Teenager Care programme” run by the Social Solidarity Association ‘HELP for children and teenagers, based on Mytilini. Dimitris Papandreou graduated from the Faculty of Management and Economics, holds a Master from the Sociology Department, while he was a Phd candidate at aforementioned department.

During the programme 40 volunteers were trained and offered psycho-social support to 20 minors via various activities. He was also set up a group for creative activities attended by 30 minors.

 

 

Vangelis Tziritis worked as Environmental Advisor at the Prespes Protection Association in order to plan, implement and evaluate the environmental monitoring system of the water resources in Mikri Prespa Lake. Vangelis holds a degree in Geology, as well as MSc and PhD in Water resources management and Hydrogeochemistry. Vangelis designed an environmental monitoring system for the area, with international protocols and the relevant EU legislation. As part of that system, sensors were installed for monitoring qualitative parameters and data were transmitted using telemetry. Water sampling was performed for physicochemical analyses.

 

 

Marios Fournaris continued his work as a full-time manager at the Wildlife Care and Environmental Awareness Center of the Alkyoni Association on Paros island. During the programme the Association cared for 874 wild animals, and welcomed 3,050 students from 61 schools to their premises from all over Greece.
