Telemedicine

Vodafone Greece Telemedicine Program is implemented to 100 areas across Greece

Vodafone Greece utilises the possibilities of its technology and implements programs that support local communities and their people. Such an initiative is the Vodafone Greece Telemedicine program, which is implemented for the 11th consecutive year, in 100 remote areas throughout Greece.

The Telemedicine Program leverages the possibilities of the continuously evolving Vodafone Greece telecommunications network in the area of health, enabling more than 500,000 residents of the remote areas where the program is implemented, to have free access to high quality specialised health services.

How does it work:

Via the Vodafone Greece Telemedicine Program, residents in remote areas can visit the peripheral medical center, where the program is implemented and take basic preventive medical tests, such as electrocardiogram or spirometry. Those specific tests, if the GP decides that he/she needs an advisory opinion, are sent through Vodafone Greece telecommunications network to cardiologists/pulmonologists at the Athens Medical Center. Cardiologists/pulmonologists provide their advisory opinion directly and quickly in the same way.

The other tests included in the program are oxymetry, pressure and glucose measurements. Recently total cholesterol and triglyceride tests were added to the program, whose results together with the results of the other clinical tests already included the program, enable the assessment of cardiovascular risk for the next decade. The program now provides the ability to create electronic health record file, through which the GPs can manage their patients’ health more efficient.

It is important to mention that since the equipment is portable, the GPs may take tests in the peripheral medical center or to the patient’s home with the same ease, or as is already being implemented with the same equipment more than one peripheral medical center in the same region can use the equipment.

Benefits:

Τhe Telemedicine Program supports GPs, while promoting preventive medicine. Moreover, it contributes to preventing illnesses through their timely diagnosis and it also covers patients with chronic diseases, since it gives them the possibility to systematically monitor their health status, at their place of residence, thus overcoming geographical or other limitations.

Partners:

Vodafone Greece Telemedicine program is implemented in cooperation with the Athens Medical Centre and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Merchantile Marine. The Local Government Authority Intermunicipality Health & Welfare Network, as well as the company Vidavo, participate in the program. The program is co-funded by the Vodafone Foundation.
